RuneScape Announces Price Hike For All VIP Membership Rates This Month

There’s an update on the horizon that might affect your in-game finances in RuneScape, whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer to the game. Jagex has announced an increase in the cost of Runescape Memberships that’s scheduled to go into effect later this month.

While technically optional, a membership subscription essentially offers you a golden ticket to unlocking the full suite of VIP perks in the free-to-play MMORPG, including access to all quests, skills, the entire world map, personal housing, and ports. Premier Memberships sweeten the deal even more with exclusive cosmetics, daily rewards, and access to an additional weekly Boss instance.

Starting September 27th, monthly memberships will jump from $12.49 to $13.99, while the six-month option goes from $59.99 to $71.94. Annual Premier memberships will also see a price hike from $79.99 to $99.48.

“Membership pricing has been unchanged in the last 2 years despite recent global inflationary pressures,” the studio explains.

However, not everyone will face the full brunt of this price hike. Jagex will be implementing a “Grandfather Rate” that will allow players currently subscribed to the monthly or six-month plans to retain their current pricing. There’s a catch, though: this lower rate hinges on maintaining your subscription continuously. Any lapse exceeding 14 days will result in being bumped up to the new, higher prices.

For those who prefer to pay their way with in-game currency, there’s a silver lining. Memberships bought using Bonds won’t be affected by this price change, (though Bond prices did already rise back in June). The bad news for Premier subscribers? You’ll need to pay the new rates if your annual subscription renews after September 27th.

There doesn’t seem to be a cutoff for when the new rates will apply, so if you’ve been meaning to take advantage of the paid membership perks, now’s the time to lock in those lower rates!
