Blizzard Offers In-Depth Preview Of Diablo 4: Vessel Of Hatred’s Storyline
Blizzard has revealed the dark and twisted storyline for Diablo 4’s upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred, and it’s as grim as you’d expect. The studio didn’t skimp on campaign spoilers, so if you’d rather experience the narrative yourself when the expansion launches on October 8th, now’s the time to back out of the page.
Vessel of Hatred picks up where the base game left off, with a new chapter that revolves around Narelle, who was last spotted sailing south with Mephisto’s Soul Stone. She faces the monumental task of banishing the Prime Evil for good. But as anyone familiar with the Diablo universe knows, things are never that simple.
Narelle is struggling with Mephisto’s corrupting influence, and the more she carries the stone, the more tightly she becomes bound to the Lord of Hatred. “The corrupting influence of Mephisto’s Soul Stone is going to potentially convince her to bring Mephisto back instead of destroy him,” Blizzard teases.
Meanwhile, back on land, the Cathedral of Light is falling apart following Inarius’s death, giving rise to a militant faction known as the Burnt Knights, led by the relentless Yurovar. Their mission is to hunt down Narelle and ensure Mephisto’s fate is in their hands, not hers.
Players will explore new zones like Nahantu, home to the sacred Vault of Light, where Narelle hopes to purify Mephisto’s essence. Guided by Eru, a spirit-born elder, you’ll delve into Nahantu’s spiritual culture while fighting to keep Mephisto from reemerging.
With themes of isolation, corruption, and the power of unity, Vessel of Hatred promises a gripping and even darker narrative compared to the base game. The Diablo 4 dev team dives deeper into the expansion’s storyline in the new spoiler-ridden developer video below.
